Out and back on trail from wells fargo

I have had chronic trouble with my achilles since my last big mileage week in November.  I was really excited to get back running after just getting over major plantar fascitis.  Well, my calves got tight; I wnet to get a massage and the nastiness in my calves moved right into my left achilles.  At one point it was so badmy achilles was swollen like a bratwurst and I couldnt walk up or down the stairs because i couldnt put pressure on my forefoot.

I dealt with it through the first part of january, then took 2 weeks almost completely off.  I have felt way better the last 2 weeks with 2 ibuprofen every day, ice twice a day, and stretching right after I run.

I wasn't sure if I could make boston because of injury after injury, but after the 14 on saturday, I am going to go for it.  I wont do great, but I just want to enjoy the race and the atmosphere.  I feel way out of shape compared to the last 3 years, but I will do what I can do without getting injured again.  It is all for fun right now.

chad and I went 17 miles. started at confluence up to snow canyon pkwy down the park trail to back of black hill and ended at maverick by the auto dealerships.  I felt so good mile 12-16.  I got in a great rhythm and just rocked it out.  It wasn't fast but it was a good 17. around 8:10 a mile with the hills.

stayed in hatch over pres. day weekend.  NO running just rode the 4 wheelers and did a little sledding.  The achillies is a little tender but nothing like it was a couple weeks ago.  It is crazy because it was almost like after 2 months it just disappeared.

PM-2nd day of track practice.  I was dreading the fact that track started, but now I am feeling pretty good about things.  We aren't going to be deep this year, but we have some good stuf going.  Our young kids are going to have to step up if we want to be top 5 this year.  We will see how it goes.  I am not even going to stress about scores.  I just want individuals to do well.

Chad and i did the industrial loop plus south virgin trail out and back. We were just under 8 a mile, but I had a real mental block around 9 today.  It took me until 12 to work things out in the brain.  I am definitely not where I was last year at this time, but at least i am running.

Flew out on Friday.  Went to Plymouth Rock and walked part of the town.  Stayed there Friday night and checked out the town the next day.

Met Dusk on Saturday at the airport.  We hung out and ate a good seafood dinner down in Quincy.  The next day we saw a few cool sights downtown boston and then went to a red sox game.  WHen people found out that I was running they treated us like kings.  THe love the marathon and showing off their city. Next we drove out to the start line.  I was getting really excited, but I didn't know whether to take the bus or have dusk drive me out the next day.

I decided to catch the shuttle from downtown, and it worked out great.  I wish I would have taken a few more things for the wait between the shuttle ride and the start.  I talked to a few people out there, but everyone seemed really nervous about the heat.

I knew I was just going to go have fun since I wasn't in shape to run for time.

It was great.  People standing on both sides of the road most of the way.  I got to the top of heartbreak hill and thought I could coast in from there, but NO!  That is a tough course. Mile 24 and 25 were really tough in the heat.  I finished strong the last half mile.  Dusky was supposed to meet me at the finish but got held up in the subway since he went to see me around mile 17.  I sat by the start line for 30 minutes trying to regain myself.  It was so hot and I was sitting downtown Boston with my shoes and socks off, no shirt, and a bag of finish line food.  I had put 5 dollars in the key shorts of my pocket just in case, but other than that, I was feeling like a hobo.

Dusk showed up and we went and got a burger at BK by the commons.  We went back to the hotel and then went to see a few more sights.

I got up on the morning and flew home.  What an awesome experience.  I want to qualify again when Kire is older so we can go together.

Ran the first 16 with Rennie in the SG Marathon.

I met ren at the expo to pick up our numbers.  I felt so dumb being there since I hadn't run once since labor day.  I was starting to get a little worried by now wondering if I had it in me to do 16, since I just realized snow canyon park was at 16 instead of 14.

THhe expo seemed really small this year.  I don't know if it was because Boston was so huge or if there werent very many merchants this year.

Laur and I went to the football game and DHHS was way up by half time so we went home.  I finally started getting ready.  Ren wsa really nervous and wnt to bed around 10PM.  I got to sleep around 11PM and set the alarm clock for 4:30AM.  I woke up around 4:15 and decided to get going.

We got to the bus and realized we had forgot our breakfast, so I ran back to the car to get it.  I was glad I wasn't running for time in the race or this would have really thrown me off.

We hung out at the start line.  I tried to keep rennies mind off the race until we got started.  We jumped in around 5 minutes after the start gun.  We just chatted and ran together.  I found myself running about 20 seconds faster than I wanted to take her, but she seemed great.  By veyo we were on pace for around 4:15.  at Dammeron we were on pace for 4:30.  I pulled off at the cinder cone.  Other than my toes, I was feeling okay.  I think I could have gone 20+ at that pace, but the socks I used were too think and both big toe nails turned black by the next day.  I went to cedar just in time to get to the game.  I coached the 5th graders and we whipped them 42-28.  It was a good day.
