This was a blast and the first xc race I have run since I was an 8th grader in Enterprise.  It was quite cold in the morning and we raced at 7.30 AM  Kire and I warmed up and got to the start line.  It was so cool to line up with him in a semi-official race.  He is such a fun kid.  The gun went off and the masses flew out.  We got out about 200 meters and hit the only little asphault part of the course.  About this time a couple of men fell and cause a little domino effect.  I stay clear of it, but it looked like a pretty good wreck from the corner of my eye.  The course loops around, so I could look back and see Kire.  I gave him a thumbs up, and he gave me one back.  He was in the back of the pack at that point.  Because he paces so well, by the time the race finished he had passed quite a few people.

At mile 1, I was at 6:07.  The hills started right after this, so I knew my next mile would be slower.

mile 2-13:06.  I really started loving the race right after this mile.  It was so fun to run with so many people on a tough and official xc course.

I didn't get my 3 mile split, but once I hit the track for the last 300 meters, I passed 3 more people.  I felt like I was in decent shape and my time was great for that tough course.  I think I may try this distance a few more times in the next few months to see how low I can go.

Kire ended up with 22:44 which is so dang good for that course.  around 20 sconds off his PR.

Nice job. Looks like maybe a sub-20 5k could be in the cards for next time.
